Note: Although the date of this entry is set on 5 Dec 2011, I actually wrote this in May 2012. Hehe!
I know I’ve been intending to write this for the longest time and now that it’s been quite a while (Read: Six Months) I’m pretty sure I don’t do it justice. But anyway! Here goes.
Last year I did something pretty crazy which was to attend L’Arc’s concert in Japan as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations. There’s not that many bands that make it to the 10 year mark, much less 20 years!
L’Arc~en~Ciel has been a band that I’ve grown up actually, I’ve known them since I was in secondary school since I caught them thanks to their ending songs (The Fourth Avenue Cafe & Niji) for the hit anime Rurouni Kenshin. What can I say? There was truly no looking back. Getting into the whole manga/anime/music scene and Japanese language and culture in general was all thanks to a chance opportunity so many years ago.
So thanks an awesome friend in Japan, we managed to grab tickets for the concert and it was an unforgettable weekend in Osaka.
It was AMAZING to attend a live in Japan. The final was held at Kyocera Dome and a reported 40,000 fans attended the concert. At any rate, it was FULL. And when Hyde asked the audience to JUMP during Driver’s High, I seriously wondered if the stadium foundations could support us. Hehe.

Both days had good set lists, it was a mixture of the old and new, there were quite a few standard numbers and also new ones. I was particularly moved by HIGH songs like Caress of Venus, Driver’s High, Stay Away, Honey, Seventh Heaven and Link. Others like Winter Fall, Niji and Fourth Avenue Cafe were dream come true songs (hearing them live that is) because they were always constantly on repeat on my tracklist, even now!
The Hurry Xmas song is specially played during the Christmas period and the videos that accompanied it was adorable!
Revelation in particular is a fantastic live song to engage the audience. Hyde also made his appearance on a sedan chair lifted by his (very willing?) assistants while Ken, Yuki and Tetsu rode around on vehicles spraying smoke at the audience. You could say that the audience really got into the whole spirit of things ^^
It was quite a homecoming for L’Arc because Osaka is their hometown and it’s really a sense of returning back to where they originally started. It was as such, pretty fitting for them to end their tour back in Osaka. They ended with a huge teaser (apparently we had the privilege of finding out first ^^) by announcing their world tour. It was a huge WOAH moment for us because this was totally unexpected and the scale of the world tour was huge.
The parting words were pretty touching.
On a side note, we also visited the live house, Rockets where L’Arc first started!
All in all, an unforgettable experience!
